April 6-12 was Week of the Young Child® (WOYC), an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world's largest early childhood education association. GSA is a NAEYC “large system user” and Accreditation Facilitation Project partner. NAEYC supports providers in delivering high quality child care for federal employees. WOYC focuses public attention on the needs of young children and their families and recognizes early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.
The week of celebration included themed days: Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, and Family Friday.
Visit the NAEYC WOYC page for more on classroom, advocacy, and family engagement activities. Congratulations to GSA providers who participated in the event celebrating children, their teachers, families, and communities.

To help celebrate the occasion, they held a center-wide school spirit day where children wore their ‘Best Day Ever’ t-shirts. When asked about this milestone, Center Director Barb Hamilton said “we realize that our mutual achievement is based on the support of our agency advocates and the involvement and support efforts of our community. Ultimately, it is all of us together that assure the young students’ success. We are extremely appreciative and proud.”
Kinderplatz was first founded by Marianna Kähkönen in August of 1985. The center plans on hosting another event to celebrate this momentous occasion later this summer. To learn more about Kinderplatz Childcare & Education Center, click here.
