There is a new free training resource for child care programs from the Dept of Education: The ED-funded Early Childhood Personnel Center (ECPC) developed a curated video library that may be used in early childhood in-service training. Topics include Assessment, Development, Families, Interactions, Interventions, and Instruction, Professionalism, Teaming.
Interested in the key to retaining staff ? Click here to watch a free recording of a webinar on this topic.
Ideas include:
- Buy pinwheels from the dollar store and put each staff member’s name on them. The team then writes something about each person on each pedal and hangs them in the walkway!
- Self-care challenge: Have a list of self-care activities people sign up for and whoever participates the most wins a prize!
- Sidewalk chalk messages (the children can help with this!)
- Find opportunities to laugh together (e.g. having a joke of the day!)
- Trivia Thursday (people post what they think the answer is and the winner gets a small prize)

NAEYC News
When NAEYC launched a pilot of the model of streamlined accreditation in 2016, five GSA centers were part of that first pilot group. In 2017, the streamlined system was optional and became required in summer of 2018. All of the GSA programs have been through the streamlined system at least once. Some of the first pilot programs have gone through the streamlined system for a second time. NAEYC wants to thank you all for your patience and help during this process. Change is hard, but you met the challenges, resulting in a new and improved system of accreditation.
