Farewell To One Of Our Own

This week we say farewell to one of our own after 15 year working in the GSA Child Care Program and over 34 years of federal service. Leo Bonner from our Washington DC office will retire May 31.  In his free time Leo plans to spend his new free time with his family, fish and volunteer with his church and Boy Scouts.

We thank Leo for his dedication and compassion to deliver quality service to children and to the GSA Child Care Center of Expertise.  We wish him all the best in retirement.

    Week of the Young Child

From the West Coast of Sacramento to the East Coast of New York, children, parents, staff and federal agencies helped GSA Child Care Centers celebrate Week of the Young Child (WOYC) across the country.  Here are some highlights from one of our favorite weeks:

Kathy Herward Child Care Center, Andover, MA celebrated a week filled with music, science, Grandparents Day, and Lego-land!  The children enjoyed many creative learning activities exploring where they live, what they eat and how they grow!

Rainforest Kids, Hato Ray, Puerto Rico enjoyed a much needed fun-filled week after the damaging hurricanes the area recently encountered.  Families and staff  enjoyed a parachute family event, made ice cream and enjoyed a splash day to commemorate WOYC.

Cleveland Fedkids, Cleveland OH created their own art museum with child created canvas paintings.  They also treated families of the center to a potluck lunch for all to enjoy.

SSA Woodlawn, Baltimore, MD honored the children during The Week of The Young Child, with a carnival, complete with snacks, games, and more!  The children and their parents got an opportunity to play games, make slime, create fun crafts, and much more. This spectacular event was well received with lots of parent volunteers and participation.  The Parent Involvement Committee was instrumental in making this event extra special for our children.  It was a fun time was had by all!

Day Early Learning @ Fort Harrison.  Indianapolis, IN celebrated by creating hand-prints/footprints of each child accompanied by a handwritten note to the child from their family.  They also enjoyed bubbles and pinwheels for all to enjoy.

Bright Horizons at Ogen, Ogden, UT celebrated the week with Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday and Family Friday.  The center enjoyed making trail mix,  doing yoga, creating art and a garden planting party to celebrate!

Tundra Tykes, Anchorage Alaska celebrated WOYC with teachers and families throughout the week.  Monday brought music and movement; parents were invited to make maracas with the children. Tuesday marked Taco Tuesday where families joined their children for a family style taco bar.  They rounded the week out with Artsy Thursday and displayed the creations made from recyclable materials donated by the families. Fun times had by all celebrating families and children at Tundra Tykes.

Innovation Station, Alexandra, VA Alexandra, VA enjoyed many fun activities during WOYC.  Activities included music class, learning to cook healthy snacks, and workout classes strengthening their gross motor skills, as well as creating their own pieces of art.
