Playground Safety

The national playground safety week was from April 25th through 29th.  As we approach potential increased outdoor time (weather cooperating) this is a good time to look at the below safety check list for playground safety.

Week of the Young Child

GSA child care centers across the nation celebrated Week of the Young Child which is an annual celebration of early learning, young children, their teachers and families.

At Fingerprints in Washington DC, some special visitors read to the children.  From the left to right  Beth Cobert, Acting Director, Office of Personnel Management; Stephen Sakach, Assistant Commissioner, Facilities Management, General Services Administration  and Sally Jewell, Secretary, Department of the Interior.

Here are some additional highlights from our GSA centers showing how they celebrated the fun week.

First Row

Left: Advantage Learning Center in Lakewood, Colorado:  the children drew pictures of their families and displayed them all over the center for all to enjoy.

Middle: Clinton Street Day Care in Syracuse, NY:  infants exploring the different types and sounds of music.

Right: IRS Service Center in Memphis, TN:  children and teachers engaging in morning exercises as they promot healthy physical development and wellness.

Second Row:

Left: Cottage Kids in Sacremonto, CA:  the preschoolers exploring art by mixing colors on plexiglass panels.

Middle: Summit Child Care Center in Atlanta, GA:  the coolest kids on the block as they rocked their different personalities through the styles and colors of sunglasses.

Right: Kathy Heward Child Care Center in Andover, MA:   celebrated with dancing, playing instruments, and having a fun time with their teachers.

Third Row

Left: The LaBranch Child Development Center in Houston, TX: the children had a picnic dressed like their favorite book characters.

Middle:  Little Eagles Child Care Center in Martinsburg, WV:  enjoyed Music Monday with Dan and Sharon Turner learning new songs.

Right: Green Tree Child Care in Seattle, WA:  celebrated with Music Specialist Sandy Buchner who introduced a folk music style called Kodaly. Parents joined in to share first hand with their children this learning experience.

Board Business: Recognize a Teacher!

Did you know that next week is teacher appreciate week?

Boards should consider nominating an exemplary preschool teacher who deserves to be honored! Teaching Young Children is a magazine that features outstanding teachers in each issue. Teachers who are selected appear on the cover of the magazine and are profiled in the magazine.   Nominees must teach preschool children 3-5 years old. If the nominee teaches in a multi-age classroom, they must have 2 or more preschoolers in their care.

Thanks for all you do!
