Submit your application for the 2025 WIC Breastfeeding Award of Excellence by December 20. Local agencies that have operated a breastfeeding peer counseling program for at least 1 year are eligible to apply.

Folate is a key nutrient during pregnancy and plays an important role in preventing neural tube defects in babies. January is National Birth Defects Awareness Month and a great time to review information about this nutrient. WIC staff can share with participants how to include folate-rich foods to get the most out of their food package.
Having a new baby can be both wonderful, and tiring. There are various ways new moms can regain strength and energy so they can better care for themselves and their new baby.

According to the CDC, individuals who are pregnant or are thinking of becoming pregnant should talk to their healthcare providers before starting or stopping any medicines.
On WIC Works, WIC staff can find information on medication use while pregnant and breastfeeding and on making referrals to appropriate healthcare providers.
January 2025 Birth defects occur in approximately 1 of every 33 infants born in the U.S. each year. While not all birth defects are preventable, WIC staff can raise awareness, provide education, and share the resources found at the link below.
