We've also updated the WDIDW Canned Fish resource for WIC staff to reflect the addition of canned fish to the child food package in the WIC food packages final rule.

SUN Bucks (Summer EBT)

SUN Bucks is a new grocery benefit available across most of the U.S. Families with eligible school-aged children can get $120 per child to buy groceries during the summer.

Summertime Food Safety

During the summer months, people engage in more outdoor food-related activities. With the increase in temperature during meal times comes an increase in the number of people who get sick from food poisoning.

 Dads are an important part of the team, including when it comes to breastfeeding. This Father's Day, help WIC fathers form a special bond with their child by sharing some ways Dads can bond with their baby.

Health Observances

National HIV Testing Day

June 27, 2024 Encourage WIC participants to get tested for HIV/AIDS and help fulfill the mission of WIC: to safeguard the health of the women, infants, and children WIC serves. WIC staff can raise awareness about the importance of HIV testing and early diagnosis of HIV for WIC participants.

Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

July 2024 Did you know that racial and ethnic minority groups in the U.S. are less likely to have access to mental health services? This year, during Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, WIC staff can help bring awareness to the unique challenges that racial and ethnic minorities face when it comes to mental illness.

National WIC Breastfeeding Week

August 1-7, 2024 Each year, during the first week of August, National WIC Breastfeeding Week is celebrated in conjunction with World Breastfeeding Week to promote and support breastfeeding as the best source of nutrition for a baby. Next month we'll be sharing new social media messages, an infographic, and more on both WIC Works and WIC Breastfeeding Support!

National Eat Your Vegetables Day

June 17, 2024 June 17th is National Eat Your Vegetables Day. Coincidentally, it's also the effective day of the permanent cash-value benefit (CVB) increase for the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables!  Take advantage of the day to promote vegetables and share tips for selecting them as well as ideas and recipes for using them.
