April is National Gardening Month!
Did you know that SNAP-Ed supports food-related gardening? Did you also know that seeds, plants, small gardening tools, and soil are allowable SNAP-Ed costs?
For more information and resources about nutrition education and gardening, see our gardening page. You can view our webinar on school gardening. Or learn more about this webinar and others on the SNAP-Ed Connection site.
Gardening is the perfect way to get outside and enjoy springtime. There are many activities to celebrate this time of growth and new beginnings!
- Enjoy the plants around you: Stop to smell the flowers planted in a local park. You could also pack a picnic lunch to enjoy outside.
- Plant your own garden: April is a great time to plant tomatoes, basil, beets, and much more! You can start out with some pots on your back porch or even some plants inside.
- Decorate an existing garden: If you already have plants growing, add some personality to the garden. You could include decorative statues or rocks at appropriate places.
