Upcoming Software Changes - OSCAR Release 5.5
On April 28, 2025, the Administrative Office of the United States Courts (AO) will deploy OSCAR release 5.5 with enhancements for judges and chambers staff, staff attorney offices, and HR administrators.
The following enhancements will be included in the release.
HR Administrator Interface
New Interface Name
OSCAR Court Unit Administrators will now be called HR Administrators to better reflect their roles in supporting law clerk and staff attorney recruitment in their courts.
Addition of Law School Templates tab
HR Administrators will now be able to view and modify law school email templates created by judges in their court, as well as create new templates for judges to use when communicating with law schools.
Managing Applications
Sort Applications by Last Updated
OSCAR will allow users to sort applications by "Last Updated" to see the most recently updated applications. Additionally, users can hover your mouse over the "U" icon in their Applicants List to see when an application was last updated.
Updated Application Packets
OSCAR will introduce a new, modernized look and feel for application packets that improves readability with an updated layout and web-friendly fonts.
Access Law School Website via Applicant Details
OSCAR law schools provide a link to their law school website or other informational resource like the NALP listing of law schools as part of their law school profile. Previously, this link displayed in an applicant's profile in their printable application packet. Now, users can access the link in the Applicant Details window, which displays when clicking on an applicant's name in OSCAR.
Positions
Updates to the Position Form
We have made minor adjustments to the OSCAR position posting stepper to improve the workflow.
Recommendation Letter Caps
OSCAR now restricts applicants from requesting more recommendations than required in a position, and caps the total number of recommendations a position can require 5. However, judges and staff attorney offices can enter "0" for Number of Recommendations Required to allow applicants flexibility to request between 0 and 5 recommendations. This is especially helpful for a judge or staff attorney office that accepts some combination of recommendations and/or references.
