Upcoming Software Changes - OSCAR Release 3.0
On November 7, 2022, the Administrative Office of the United States Courts (AO) will deploy OSCAR release 3.0 with a number of enhancements for applicants, law school administrators (LSAs), and recommenders.
OSCAR will be unavailable for approximately one hour beginning at 11:00 a.m. EST on Monday, November 7, 2022 to implement system changes necessary for the release.
The following enhancements will be included in the release.
Applicants
-
New Position Type - Court Law Clerk
OSCAR adds the "Court Law Clerk" clerkship type to support hiring of term law clerks who work on behalf of the court and not chambers. Like the existing Bankruptcy Appellate Panel (BAP) Law Clerk, Pro Se Law Clerk, or Death Penalty Law Clerk types, Court Law Clerk positions will be posted under a chief judge's account.
-
"Not Tagged" Filter
Applicants receive a new filter option on their Positions List. Applicants can now select "Not Tagged" in the Tags filter to display only positions that they have not tagged.
-
Self-Deactivation for Applicant Accounts
Applicants can now easily deactivate their own accounts under Profile > My Account in the main navigation menu. Deactivating an applicant account automatically deletes the applicant's profile, application documents, and applications. Additionally, the applicant will no longer receive any OSCAR email. Deactivated accounts cannot be restored.
-
Current Number of Years of Law School Grades Is Required
Applicants are now required to make a selection in their OSCAR profile for Current Number of Years of Law School Grades. Applicants who have not made a selection will be taken to their profile upon logging into OSCAR, where they must make a selection to continue using OSCAR.
-
Saved Search Improvements
OSCAR improves the interface to make applying a saved search more intuitive. For more information on saved searches, read this help article.
Law School Administrators
-
Digest Emails for Recommendation Requests
LSAs can elect to receive email notifications of pending recommendation requests for recommenders who have turned off their email notifications on new and pending recommendation requests. OSCAR will now provide these notifications as a digest email instead of individual emails.
-
User Credentials Automatically Sent to New LSA Account Holders
When LSAs create new law school administrator accounts, OSCAR will automatically email login information to the new account holder.
-
Re-send Recommendation Request Emails to Recommenders
LSAs can now easily re-send recommendation request emails to recommenders using the new Manage Email > Send Pending Reminder Email batch option on the Recommenders List.
-
Counts of Draft and Withdrawn Applications
LSAs can now view a count of finalized, draft, and withdrawn applications for each applicant on their Applicants Lists.

How to Run Reports in OSCAR
Users with the appropriate administrative rights can access predefined reports to assist with managing applicants and recommenders. For instance, you can run a report to see a list of all your applicants who have pending requests for recommendation letters or to view all applicants who have finalized applications.
To run a report, select Tools, and then from the dropdown select Reports.
Once you locate the report, click one of the following options below the report name:
-
Review Latest Run: shows the data from the last instance that the report was run. Note: The last date and time that the report was run displays to the right of the report name.
-
Regenerate Report: runs a report using the most current data.
-
Previous Runs: allows you to view previous runs of the report.
