Update to the Frequently Asked Questions Regarding the FDA Food Allergen Labeling Guidance for Industry - Web Page Update
The FDA has updated its Frequently Asked Questions regarding the Food Allergen Labeling Guidance for Industry. The update intends to help industry and other stakeholders understand and comply with the FDA’s food allergen labeling requirements. The update includes two new questions and answers, updated FDA thinking on existing questions, separation of an existing question on tree nut labeling into two questions for clarity, and other editorial changes.
The two new questions and answers cover milk and eggs:
- Does the FDA expect firms that produce products made from different types of milk (e.g., cow milk and goat milk) on shared equipment to implement allergen cross-contact controls between those products?
- Does the FDA expect firms that produce products made from different types of eggs (e.g. chicken eggs and duck eggs) on shared equipment to implement allergen cross-contact controls between those products?
