Advancing Drug Development for the Prevention of Spontaneous Preterm Birth

FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research and the Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy will host a jointly sponsored virtual public workshop to generate ideas and discussion around the challenges in developing and studying products to prevent preterm birth.
FDA's Rare Disease Day 2024

Registration is now open for the FDA’s virtual public meeting for Rare Disease Day. Panels will discuss efforts to address the unique challenges with developing treatments for rare diseases, as well as the FDA’s efforts to promote new medical products for patients with rare diseases, and ways for patients to engage with the FDA.

FDA OMHHE Health Equity Innovation Award: Enhance Equity Funding Opportunity
The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to fund innovative research that will strengthen and advance minority health and health equity objectives. Areas of interest include: Proposals that focus on advancing equity in clinical trials by supporting efforts to advance diversity in clinical trials, equitable data efforts by increasing data available on diverse groups including, but not limited to, ethnicity, race, age, disability and geography, and equity of voices by increasing understanding of diverse patient perspectives, preferences, and unmet needs.
Letter of Intent due January 18, 2024.
All applications are due by 5:00 PM on February 29, 2024.
Informational Webinar: Intervention Research to Improve Native American Health
January 25, 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. ET, Virtual
Intervention Research to Improve Native American Health (IRINAH), a network of principal investigators and their partners, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), was launched in 2011 through a program titled “Interventions for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention in Native American (NA) Populations.” The IRINAH program was created to develop, adapt, and test the effectiveness of health-promotion and disease-prevention interventions in Native American populations. The long-term goal of the notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) is to reduce mortality and morbidity in Native American communities.
A webinar on the IRINAH Program is scheduled for January 25, 2024, at 1:00-2:30pm EST to discuss the new NOFOs.
CDRH seeks public comment: Digital Health Technologies for Detecting Prediabetes and Undiagnosed Type 2 Diabetes
The Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) is seeking input from the public on advancing health equity and facilitating access to digital health technologies for detecting prediabetes and type 2 diabetes, particularly in racial and ethnic minorities.
Comments can be added until January 31, 2024.
Youth Art Challenge: How Prevention Can Create Better Health for Everyone
The National Institutes of Health Office of Disease Prevention (ODP) wants teens and young adults to share their ideas—through art—about how prevention can help improve people's health, no matter who they are or where they live. Their original artwork may be featured on ODP's website and social media, and winning entries will be awarded $500–$3,500! Up to five prizes will be awarded for each category: Teens (13–17 years old) and Young Adults (18–22 years old).
Submissions are open until January 31, 2024.
New Funding Opportunity to Promote Referral to Prevention in SBIRT Approaches for Populations That Experience Health Disparities
Help enhance Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) with referral to preventive intervention approaches for populations that experience health disparities!
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Disease Prevention (ODP) and participating Institutes, Centers, and Offices are inviting applications for research projects that test innovative approaches to implementing Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment or Prevention (SBIRT/P) for alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD) use and misuse in adult populations that experience health disparities.
First receipt date is February 5, 2024.

The FDA Office of Minority Health and Health Equity (OMHHE) announced a new Enhance Equity Research Hub, a searchable repository that provides information about OMHHE-funded research projects.
The Enhance Equity Research Hub is part of the Enhance Equity Initiative and part of OMHHE's efforts to support our mission to promote and protect the health of diverse populations through research and communication of science that addresses health disparities.
