The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) updated these databases to include fields for additional patient demographic data in the search results for medical devices. The new fields are: patient age, , weight, ethnicity, and race. This update is intended to ensure medical device adverse event reports provided to the public are more informative.
The new fields are now available in the Manufacturer and User Facility Device Experience (MAUDE) database and the openFDA Device Adverse Event endpoint.
