Large Portion of Foreign Firms Have Yet to Renew Their Food Facility Registrations

Dear International Colleague,
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has begun sending reminder emails to firms with valid Food Facility Registrations (FFR) that have not yet renewed their registrations. You should know that a large portion of these are foreign firms. If you are the owner, operator, or agent in charge of either a domestic or foreign facility that is engaged in manufacturing, processing, packing, or holding of food for human or animal consumption in the United States, you must register with the FDA, unless you are exempt under 21 CFR 1.226 from the requirement to register.
The biennial FFR renewal period began October 1, 2022, and ends December 31, 2022. If the facility does not renew its registration by December 31, 2022, the FDA will consider the registration to be expired. Note: there is no fee associated with registration or renewal. In addition to emails sent directly to firms, the FDA published a Constituent Update (CU) on that topic on September 30.

La Administración de Alimentos y Medicamentos de los Estados Unidos (FDA) comenzó a enviar correos electrónicos de recordatorio a las empresas con registros de establecimientos de alimentos (FFR) válidos que aún no han renovado su registro. Debe saber que una gran parte de estos son firmas extranjeras. El propietario, operador o agente a cargo de una instalación nacional o extranjera debe registrar su establecimiento, si dicho establecimiento está involucrado en la producción, procesamiento, empaque y almacenamiento de alimentos para el consumo humano o animal en los Estados Unidos, a menos que dicho establecimiento se encuentre exento de realizar el registro. El período de renovación bienal de FFR comenzó el 1 de octubre de 2022 y finaliza el 31 de diciembre de 2022. Si la instalación no renueva su registro antes del 31 de diciembre de 2022, la FDA considerará que el registro ha caducado. Nota: no hay tarifa asociada con el registro o la renovación.
