FDA Alerts the Public About Potentially Contaminated Products from Certain Family Dollar Stores

Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an alert about potentially contaminated FDA-regulated products available from Family Dollar stores in six states. Potentially impacted products include medical devices, medications, human and animal food, and cosmetics. These products originated from the company’s distribution facility in West Memphis, Arkansas. This alert follows the FDA’s inspection of the facility that found extremely unsanitary conditions, including a facility-wide rodent infestation, which could cause the products to become contaminated and cause harm to consumers.

If you purchased any FDA-regulated products from a Family Dollar store in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, or Tennessee from January 1, 2021-present:

  • Be aware that potentially contaminated medical devices and other health products regulated by the FDA were sold at these facilities.
  • The FDA-regulated products include but are not limited to feminine hygiene products, incontinence pads, surgical masks, condoms, contact lens cleaning solutions, nasal care products, pregnancy tests, diabetes test strips, and bandages.
  • Throw away these products and wash your hands after handling them. The Salmonella bacteria may be on rodent-contaminated products and could cause infection and severe illness.
  • Contact a health care professional if you have health concerns after using or handling impacted products.
