Secretary Buttigieg swears-in new FAA Administrator
FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker took the Oath of Office today in a swearing-in ceremony at FAA Headquarters with DOT Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Watch a recording of the ceremony on FAA’s YouTube channel.

From the Football Field to the FAA
Kendrick Crawford didn’t grow up thinking he would be involved in aviation. But he did know he wanted to be an electrical engineer. A meeting with an FAA employee who was also a professor at Langston University where Crawford was studying would change his entire life. “I became interested in aviation after that,” he said. Learn more about Crawford’s experience at Langston, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), including his time as a team leader on the football field, prepared him for his role as branch manager in NAS Services Operations. “The things that I did to get to that point, I brought that right on over to the FAA.”

October 27, 2005: Nine new directional offshore Class I area navigation (RNAV) Atlantic Routes (ARs) were established between Florida and northeastern US airport pairs. The new air routes along the East Coast aimed to cut flight delays and minimize fuel burn. Called the Florida airspace optimization plan, the new routes made significant changes to airspace controlled by air traffic control centers in Washington, Jacksonville and Miami, and various approach controls in Florida. |
