Message from FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker

Federal Aviation Administration

October 26, 2023

Dear FAA Team,

I am honored to serve as your FAA Administrator. Your incredible dedication and unwavering commitment to our mission inspired me to return and serve alongside you.

I was Deputy Administrator from 2013–2016, and I learned then that the FAA's greatest strength is its people. I'm grateful to gain from your collective experience and knowledge as we work together to solve the challenges we face today.

Our overarching priority remains steadfast – the safety of the flying public. To that end, I look forward to strengthening and building upon our world-leading safety record. We recognize that even one serious close call is one too many, and we are committed to making the skies safer.

We must also be willing to adjust and adapt to meet future airspace needs. In a rapidly evolving aviation landscape, our flexibility and creativity will be critical to the successful integration of drones, commercial space launches and air taxis into the National Airspace System. These exciting challenges are poised for our innovative solutions.

To enhance safety today and into the future, our workforce requires a deep bench of skilled public servants. Together, we will cultivate a workplace that attracts the best and brightest.

In closing, I want to emphasize that our safety mission is a collective endeavor. I urge you to engage with me and your colleagues about what we're doing well and where we can improve. I'm a big believer in open lines of communication and candid conversations. Having both are key waypoints on our path to enhancing the FAA Safety Culture and making the FAA a better place to work.

You have my promise to lead the FAA with integrity and a passion for our safety mission. Once again, I am profoundly honored to serve as your Administrator, and I am eager to embark on this journey with all of you.

-Mike
