SDWA Section 1433 Webinars

Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) section 1433, as revised by America’s Water Infrastructure Act (AWIA) Section 2013, requires community water systems (CWSs) serving more than 3,300 people to prepare (or revise) and certify risk and resilience assessments (RRAs) and emergency response plans (ERPs) to EPA every five years. CWSs serving 3,301–49,999 people must certify their ERP by December 31, 2026.

EPA is offering webinars to help CWSs understand their requirements and prepare for the upcoming ERP deadline. Each webinar will include an overview of SDWA section 1433, followed by topic-specific information on how to use EPA’s tools and resources for ERPs.

Using Local Mutual Aid Networks in Your ERP

September 30, 2026 2:00pm – 3:00pm ET Water and Wastewater Agency Response Networks (WARNs), the intrastate mutual aid and assistance networks of “utilities helping utilities,” can be leveraged by CWSs to build resilience. In this webinar, EPA will provide examples of how CWSs can use WARNs and include them in their ERPs.

Natural Hazard Technical Assistance for Updating Your ERP

October 14, 2026 1:00pm – 2:30 pm ET Join EPA’s Strengthening Water Infrastructure for Tomorrow (SWIFT) initiative for a free webinar on updating your ERP for natural hazards. The webinar will highlight how to use available data resources, online tools, templates, and free technical assistance to address natural hazard threats in ERPs.

Emergency Drinking Water Supply Planning

November 17, 2026 2:00pm – 3:00pm ET Under SDWA section 1433, ERPs must address the supply of drinking water provided to communities and individuals, including planning alternative water supplies in the event of a disruption. In this webinar, EPA will cover the basics of planning for an Emergency Drinking Water Supply to include in your ERP.
