Addressing Public Water System Cybersecurity in Sanitary Surveys

The EPA has issued a memorandum, Addressing Public Water System Cybersecurity in Sanitary Surveys or an Alternate Process, that interprets an existing regulation to include cybersecurity into public water system sanitary surveys or through other state programs.  Along with the memorandum, the EPA has also released guidance to help with the implementation which includes several resources that can be utilized by public water system entities as well as state primacy agencies. Water Cybersecurity Assessment Tool and Risk Mitigation Plan – States and water utilities can use this tool to evaluate cybersecurity at a public water system prior to or during a sanitary survey.

Water Sector Cybersecurity Evaluation Program – The EPA is offering to conduct cybersecurity assessments for public water systems. Register today for this free service. 

Cyber Technical Assistance Program for the Water Sector – States and public water systems can submit questions or request to consult with a subject matter expert regarding cybersecurity.
