The COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented challenges. School staff faced pressure to protect students, faculty and others while adapting to recommendations and guidance that changed over the course of the pandemic. They’re now being presented with new opportunities but also big challenges, including conflicting priorities, vague guidance, increased pressure and many sales pitches.
The Keeping School Buildings Healthy course, developed by the Chemical Insights Research Institute of Underwriters Laboratories Inc., presents research-based science that provides clear recommendations and practical advice. The course includes some of the questions that school facility and staff may be getting and looks at what the science says about how to respond.
This course makes the case for prioritizing indoor air quality (IAQ) in learning environments, reviews common sources of poor IAQ in schools, explores strategies for promoting healthy IAQ in schools, and wraps up with practical tips for successfully implementing these strategies.
Visit AsthmaCommunityNetwork.org to hear Dr. Marilyn Black, a trusted IAQ expert, share her unique scientific knowledge and apply it to your practice right away.

Learn More Breathe Better
With the new year come new resources from the Learn More Breathe Better® program! Learn More Breathe Better is a national health education program that increases awareness and understanding of lung diseases and conditions, including asthma. The new materials are all available in English and Spanish and for free download to help patients and caregivers understand more about living with asthma.
People with asthma use a variety of devices to deliver their medications. To support proper device usage, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) developed tip sheets on using three common devices: metered-dose inhalers, dry powder inhalers and nebulizers.
NHLBI also has published new worksheets, fact sheets and tips for monitoring and treating asthma, including an Asthma Action Plan. To access all of the resources that the Learn More Breathe Better program has to offer, visit AsthmaCommunityNetwork.org.
Learning how to control asthma is the key to leading a full and active life. Breathe better!
