The global COVID-19 pandemic has prompted widespread demand for air cleaning technologies aimed at reducing risks of airborne infectious disease transmission inside buildings. Along with increased ventilation, portable and in-duct air cleaners are increasingly being recommended as part of a layered approach to reduce exposures to SARS-CoV-2 in airborne particles. In this webinar we will help navigate the landscape of commercially available air cleaning technologies, provide insight on how to interpret air cleaner test reports, and provide recommendations and tools for selection, evaluation, and sizing of portable and in-duct air cleaners.

Featured Speakers

Bret Stephens

Dr. Brent Stephens is a professor and department chair in the Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering (CAEE) at Illinois Institute of Technology. He is an expert in indoor air quality (IAQ) and building science, with over 10 years of experience performing energy and IAQ laboratory and field assessments and developing and applying models for energy use and costs, IAQ, infectious disease transmission, and human health. His work is grounded in practical applications and continues to influence professional practice, standards, and guidelines. Dr. Stephens directs the Built Environment Research Group (BERG) at IIT, which focuses on energy and air quality in the built environment.

Elliott Gall

Dr. Elliott Gall is an assistant professor at Portland State University (PSU) in the department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. He received his B.S.E. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Florida and his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. At PSU, Dr. Gall leads the Healthy Buildings Research Laboratory, which aims to conduct fundamental and applied research exploring the many factors that impact our exposure to air pollution inside buildings. Current research areas include evaluation of indoor air pollution in near-roadway buildings and indoor air quality during wildfire events. Evaluation of air cleaning technologies and interventions to reduce indoor exposures to air pollution are another current focus.
