The Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Tools for Schools: Preventive Maintenance Guidance and associated materials can help your school district take a holistic approach to preventive maintenance and IAQ management. Including preventive maintenance as a part of your school or school district’s IAQ management practices will present new opportunities to become more proactive and predictive, achieving better facility performance, extending equipment longevity and avoiding costly repairs. By acting quickly to address IAQ issues as they arise, school districts can save money while protecting the health of students and staff members.

The Guidance
The Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools: Preventive Maintenance Guidance connects the importance of IAQ, preventive maintenance and energy efficiency for healthy indoor learning environments and provides a roadmap to develop an IAQ preventive maintenance plan. It provides technical assistance on addressing specific IAQ issues, along with replicable models of school district case studies and proven best practices for successfully implementing each stage of an IAQ preventive maintenance plan. Use this voluntary guide to build a thorough program for keeping your school buildings healthy, reliable and efficient.

The Checklist
The IAQ Preventive Maintenance Checklist (Appendix A) connects schools with critical information and practical steps that they can use to take action. The checklist operates on the easy-to-use Excel platform and is completely interactive and customizable, allowing you to take on the full range of IAQ preventive maintenance technical issues or focus on one or two topics areas at a time that complement your priorities and goals.

The Model Plan
The IAQ Preventive Maintenance Model Plan (Appendix B) provides a framework to develop a tailored IAQ preventive maintenance plan. The Model Plan can serve as a blueprint when you are ready to customize the information from the guidance to your school or school district’s unique specifications.

The Value Proposition Worksheet
The IAQ & Preventive Maintenance Value Proposition Worksheet (Appendix C) is designed to help you make a strong case for developing an IAQ preventive maintenance plan. Use this worksheet to develop a focused pitch, which will help you describe the benefits of your program and secure high-level commitment from decision makers and desired team members.
