WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin is following through on his commitment to seek nominations for the Science Advisory Board (SAB) and Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (CASAC). This action is the next step in EPA’s efforts to reconstitute these federal advisory committees to reverse the politicization of SAB and CASAC under the Biden-Harris Administration.
“Reconstituting the Science Advisory Board and Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee is critical to ensuring that the agency receives scientific advice consistent with its legal obligations to advance our core mission of protecting human health and the environment,” said EPA Administrator Zeldin. “These nominations will help us build an independent group of advisors to aid the agency’s rulemaking.”
EPA’s science advisory boards, including SAB and CASAC, provide independent scientific advice to the Administrator on the science that underlies agency rulemaking. The SAB and CASAC both play a role in supporting EPA’s mission to protect human health and the environment.
Federal Register notices were published today to solicit nominations from all qualified experts in a variety of disciplines to the SAB, its standing committees, and CASAC.
EPA encourages all interested individuals to apply for consideration. Nominations will be accepted for 30 days. EPA will conduct a rigorous review of all nominations and members will be carefully selected for their scientific expertise.
