The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is using artificial intelligence (AI) to advance the future of our nation’s bioeconomy. Researchers at PNNL are using AI models to reduce the trial time of exploring new bioprocesses, increasing production as a result. By using AI to predict performance, PNNL can produce improved bioproducts while saving time and reducing costs.

PNNL’s work in AI-accelerated bioproducts development is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation’s Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO), and by PNNL’s internally funded Predictive Phenomics Initiative, which is focused on understanding the inner workings of complex biological systems.
BETO supports technology research, development, and demonstration for the use of biomass and waste feedstocks across the U.S. economy. BETO is part of DOE's Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation.
