DOE Renames Office to Reflect Commercialization-Centered Mission
The U.S. Department of Energy has renamed the Office of Technology Transitions to the Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC)—a change that emphasizes the Department’s sharpened focus on transforming scientific breakthrough into real-world energy and economic outcomes.
The new name better reflets OTC’s role in aligning science, capital, and industry to deliver tangible results for the American public. From DOE’s National Labs to the regional innovation ecosystems that help scale new technologies, commercialization is now recognized as a core mission of the Department.
“The mission of this office is to ensure the American public sees real benefits from the science they fund—through new companies, jobs, and technologies that make energy more affordable, reliable and secure,” said Anthony Pugliese, DOE Chief Commercialization Officer and Director of the Office of Technology Commercialization. “This renaming is a clear signal that the Department of Energy is prioritizing commercialization and increasing our focus on delivering results for the American people.”
OTC leads programs across the commercialization pipeline, including the Technology Commercialization Fund, Energy I-Corps, EnergyTech University Prize, and the Energy Program for Innovation Clusters. These initiatives support entrepreneurial training, early-stage technology development, and private sector partnerships that accelerate impact.
