New Energy Storage Systems Prize Offers $4.8M To Advance Industrial Innovation
Today, IEDO launched the Industrial Energy Storage Systems Prize, a $4.8 million challenge seeking cost-effective energy storage solutions that can support an industrial facility’s thermal or electric energy needs. Innovative energy storage technologies will be critical to help the United States meet rising electricity demand and position the nation to lead in global markets.

For this prize, IEDO invites submissions of thermal energy storage solutions across three categories representing a range of temperatures of industrial relevance:
- Industrial cooling energy storage
- High temperature (>300°C) industrial energy storage
- Industrial thermal storage for hybrid cooling, heating, and power.
Applications for Phase 1 of the Industrial Energy Storage Systems Prize are due April 29, 2025, at 5 p.m. ET. Only Phase 1 winners will be eligible to compete in Phase 2.

COMING SOON: New Funding for IEDO’s Industrial Technology Validation Program
DOE’s Industrial Technology Validation (ITV) program will soon offer industrial facilities up to $400,000 to support real-world testing and validation of emerging technologies. The ITV program pairs industrial sites with technology developers to evaluate novel industrial technologies designed to reduce energy and water use, cut costs, and increase resilience.
The next ITV solicitation period will take place in spring 2025. The ITV funding opportunity will require a 50% cost share agreement. If your industrial facility is considering installing and testing a new technology, we encourage you to visit the ITV funding opportunity webpage to sign up for the ITV program teaming partner list. This list supports the ITV program in pairing industrial sites like yours with a technology developer that can provide the equipment/technology for testing and validation. Signing up for this list allows you to specify the technologies you are interested in validating and provide details about your facility to help you find a technology provider to partner with.
