Community Benefits: Community Benefit Mechanisms Power Local Investments and Equitable Development
Wind energy development can provide a variety of benefits to the communities where energy projects are located and beyond, with benefits coming in many forms—such as tax revenues, supply chain and manufacturing activities, and job creation.
Community benefit agreements and related financial and/or nonfinancial investments, voluntarily offered by developers provide additional benefits for communities impacted by wind energy projects. These can include initiatives, agreements, and contributions designed to deliver social, economic, and environmental benefits to areas near wind farms.
To help communities explore these opportunities, WINDExchange offers two key resources: a community benefits guide and database of examples set up between U.S. communities and wind farm developers. These tools provide examples and on structuring community benefit agreements that align with local needs and promote equity.
