Joint Office Headlines
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced its fourth round funding from the Clean School Bus Rebate Program with up to $965 million available to school districts. This funding will build on the previous nearly $3 billion in investments being distributed nationwide to further improve air quality in and around schools, reduce greenhouse gas pollution fueling the climate crisis, and help accelerate America’s leadership in developing the clean vehicles of the future. Rebate applications will be accepted through Jan. 9, 2025.
Report: Recommended Actions To Improve Adapter Safety
A new report from the National Charging Experience (ChargeX) Consortium provides recommendations on how to improve safety in EV charging adapters. Adapters can help more vehicles access more chargers.
Kentucky’s first EV charging station funded by the NEVI Formula Program is now open. This station helps the Bluegrass State become a leader in building out reliable EV charging infrastructure and stay on track with its ambitious goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
In July 2024, 122,997 plug-in EVs sold and 2,180 new places to charge were added to the national public charging network. Read the full minute for more EV stats.
The Joint Office Executive Director Gabe Klein recently spoke with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute on the evolution of the national EV charging network thanks to a combination of public and private sector investment.

This webinar covered the work of public power utilities across the country, showing how programs have evolved to meet the needs of an electrified transportation system.
The Joint Office dives into the experience across different types of charging speeds and connectors, new EV model availability and options, and what drivers can expect at public charging stations.
The U.S. Department of Energy announced the SuperTruck Charge funding program, which will award $72 million for projects that will enable the design, development, and demonstration of innovative EV charging infrastructure near key ports, distribution hubs, and major corridors in support of electrified medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. SuperTruck Charge seeks innovative and replicable solutions to support medium- and heavy-duty EVs, accelerate charging infrastructure deployment, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury and Internal Revenue Service issued a notice of proposed rulemaking and additional guidance on the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit as expanded by the Biden-Harris administration’s Inflation Reduction Act. The guidance will provide clarity on alternative fuel vehicle refueling property investments for battery-powered EV charging and other clean fuel infrastructure such as hydrogen refueling. The guidance will lower transportation costs and increase energy security by making clean vehicles like electric and plug-in hybrids more affordable for Americans.
Energy Ready Program Launches to Accelerate Local Clean Energy Deployment
The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and Interstate Renewable Energy Council have launched Energy Ready, a new integrated effort funded by the U.S. Department of Energy that supports local governments with free technical assistance and recognizes their improvements in planning, zoning, and for permitting distributed energy generation. Announced at the annual ICMA Conference, Energy Ready builds on the success of SolSmart, which helps communities reduce barriers to solar energy access. Energy Ready is launching today as a coordinated effort that brings together SolSmart, the new Charging Smart program, and the forthcoming Distributed Wind Smart program, which will be funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
