The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join the Data, Modeling, and Analysis (DMA) subprogram as a Technology Manager (General Engineer/GS-0801-14 or Physical Scientist/GS-1301-14). BETO’s DMA subprogram supports research, analysis, and tool development to address the economic and environmental dimensions of bioenergy and bioproducts. It also works with R&D programs to develop innovative technologies and conduct integrative analyses that facilitate insights across the bioenergy supply chain.

The individual will support portfolio management of modeling, data management, and tool development projects relevant to identifying the highest-value fuels and products that can be produced from biomass and waste materials, while also maximizing decarbonization potential across the entire bioenergy supply chain. The project portfolio will include projects from academia, the DOE national laboratories, and industry. The incumbent will also help to define and execute on the multi-year R&D vision and key funding opportunities to help achieve DMA subprogram and BETO goals.

The DMA team member will be expected to:

  • Support the DMA Program Manager in assessing modeled scenarios for bioenergy development and develop responsive strategies to achieve BETO goals.
  • Develop topics for potential inclusion in annual calls for proposals, review proposals, and support technology review activities.
  • Proactively manage DMA projects.
  • Prepare and present briefing materials.
  • Prepare technical program documents.
  • Represent BETO and present at relevant technical conferences.

This position will be located at DOE’s Headquarters in Washington, D.C., or the Golden Field Office in Golden, Colorado, and periodic multi-day travel is expected. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
