DOE announced $38 million in funding to advance domestic solar energy manufacturing. The Solar Energy Supply Chain Incubator funding opportunity seeks research, development, and demonstration projects that de-risk solar hardware, manufacturing processes, and software products across a wide range of solar technology areas. U.S. companies are encouraged to submit concept papers by July 19. Register for an informational webinar on June 13 at 4 p.m. ET.
SETO selected four projects to receive $9.5 million through the Solar Energy Evolution and Diffusion Studies 4 (SEEDS 4) funding program. These social science research projects will generate actionable insights to improve large-scale solar siting processes and outcomes for host communities—particularly those that are disadvantaged—as well as the solar industry and other stakeholders.
Don't forget to participate in these funding opportunities, prizes, and solicitations:
Are you passionate about the future of clean energy? Apply for the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Science, Technology, and Policy Fellowship, where you’ll have an opportunity to implement solar research and development programs at SETO. A background in solar energy is not required. Applications are due July 15.
DOE selected 30 organizations to join the Equitable Solar Communities of Practice core teams, which support the equitable expansion in solar adoption across five meaningful benefit categories: 1) Access and Consumer Protections, 2) Meaningful Household Savings, 3) Resilience, Storage and Grid Benefits, 4) Community-led Economic Development, and 5) Solar Workforce.
The DOE Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office (IEDO) requests information for a new study that will identify strategic pathways to achieve a thriving U.S. industrial sector with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Stakeholders within and outside of industry are encouraged to submit responses by June 24.
The DOE Office of Technology Transitions is expanding its Voucher Program that enables technology companies, jurisdictions, and manufacturers to connect with third-party validation to advance their technologies, businesses, or energy projects. The program has reopened five vouchers and added two new vouchers worth $15 million. Entities interested in providing voucher support must apply by July 9. The application period for potential voucher recipients will open later this summer.
The Global Electronics Council activated the Ultra-Low Carbon (ULC) Solar Criteria for the EPEAT® ecolabel, which is the only global certification for electronics that considers the greenhouse gas emissions generated during solar module production. Solar modules that meet the EPEAT ecolabel’s ULC threshold (≤400 kg CO2e/kWp) receive the EPEAT® Climate+ designation, signaling to consumers that the modules were made with minimal carbon emissions. This marks the industry’s first carbon threshold limits for global use to help consumers reduce the carbon footprint of solar installations.
DOE selected two clean energy developers to lease land on their 890-square-mile Idaho National Laboratory site for commercial clean energy projects. These projects have the potential to enable more large-scale clean energy research, including solar energy research.
