The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) announced that it has opened applications for up to $44.5 million in Active Transportation Infrastructure Investment Program (ATIIP) competitive grants. The ATIIP will award both Planning and Design grants and Construction grants. These grants will support projects that will help strengthen safety and focus on building and improving connected bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure.
The Biden-Harris administration finalized the strongest-ever pollution standards for cars last week, positioning U.S. companies and workers to lead the clean vehicle future, protect public health, address the climate crisis, save drivers money. The standards will slash emissions and harmful air pollution while expanding consumer choice in clean vehicles and build on historic progress in U.S. auto manufacturing.

Charging Ahead: Resources for EV Charging Infrastructure
This strategy document from the Joint Office, developed in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Transportation, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), prioritizes investments, planning, and deployment for medium- and heavy-duty vehicle fueling infrastructure to advance zero-emission freight along the nation’s corridors.
Learn more about the projects that the Joint Office has funded to advance research into clean transportation efforts, ranging from soft cost considerations to building infrastructure to equity best practices.

This first in a four-part webinar series will provide operators, technicians, and other school bus fleet members a fundamental understanding of electric school bus technology. Courses will be presented live and include time for Q&A. Courses will be recorded and made available online with associated testing materials for school districts to incorporate into their internal training programs.

Recent Webinars
This webinar discussed workforce training programs, job creation, and local and economic hiring preferences in the transition to electrified transportation. Workforce development experts provided updates on new funding opportunities and resources available to stakeholders, including new web content from the Joint Office and funded projects from the Ride and Drive Electric Funding Opportunity.
This webinar introduced the latest resources available to help transit agencies and school bus fleets transition to zero-emission buses. Presenters from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory showed how to use the new Route Planning Tool, which assists school bus fleets in determining the bus power usage and charger power needs for their unique bus routes. They also demonstrated how school and transit bus fleets can apply for the Clean Bus Planning Awards.

This half-day mini conference connects utility representatives with institutional investors to discuss EVs. Joint Office Senior Advisor Sejal Shah will present on the outlook for EVs, including adoption rates, grid impact, the economics of EV charging, and the role of various stakeholders in the EV transition.
In-Person: FHWA Training Course for Communities on P3s for EV Charging Infrastructure
April 10, 2024, 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. ET
*The deadline to register is Friday, March 29, 2024.
FHWA is offering a training course for communities on use of public-private partnerships for delivery of EV charging infrastructure. This pilot one-day in-person FHWA training course will be offered for local government staff involved in the procurement of EV charging infrastructure. The course will be hosted at the National Highway Institute training facilities in Vienna, Virginia. There is no charge to attend, but space is limited. Limited financial assistance for travel is available.
Webinar: The Path to Net-Zero Emissions
President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) invests $7.5 billion in EV charging, $10 billion in clean transportation, and over $7 billion in EV battery components, critical minerals, and materials. Federal leaders, including Joint Office Deputy Director Rachael Nealer, will discuss progress on BIL, including EV incentives, charging infrastructure plans, job creation, and much more.
