Highlights

The Inflation Reduction Act in Its First Year

One year out, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA)—a blueprint for the largest, U.S. energy transformation—is reducing emissions, bolstering our national security, and creating good-paying jobs for Americans across the country.

Read the new report that details how IRA and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will impact the climate crisis, the economy, and American workers and businesses.

DOE Launches New Website for Industrial Decarbonization Funding Opportunities, Technical Assistance, and Resources

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act represent unprecedented investments in our industrial sector. Through these and longstanding technical assistance and funding programs, DOE is leading a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to build a decarbonized, competitive industrial sector. Visit the new Industrial Technologies website to find more information on industrial decarbonization-related funding opportunities, tax incentives, and technical assistance from across DOE.

White House Releases New Report on Sustainable Chemistry

Chemistry is the foundation of a competitive U.S. manufacturing sector and is at the forefront of the transition to a low-carbon economy. Sustainable chemistry can help us harness renewable energy sources, reduce demand for energy, and implement a more circular economy. The new NSTC: Sustainable Chemistry Report  emphasizes the importance of collaboration between government and the private sector to build a strong foundation for future research in sustainable chemistry.

NEW Life Cycle Assessment and Techno-Economic Analysis Training Resources

DOE has published a repository of resources to help users assess emerging technologies, determining their potential costs and environmental impacts. A centerpiece in the collection is the Techno-economic Energy & Carbon Heuristic Tool for Early-State Technologies, or TECHTEST. TECHTEST aids users in estimating potential energy, carbon, and cost impacts of a new technology in a streamlined spreadsheet tool that integrates life cycle assessment (LCA) and techno-economic analysis (TEA) methods. TECHTEST also allows a user to compare a new technology to its commercial benchmark. The repository includes other strategic analysis tools, as well as short tutorial videos that explain basic concepts of LCA and TEA in the context of emerging technologies.

In Case You Missed It: The 2023 R&D 100 Award Winners Announcement

Widely recognized as a mark of excellence for the most innovative ideas of the year, R&D Magazine’s R&D 100 Awards highlight the most promising new products, processes, materials, or software developed throughout the world and introduced to the market the previous year. The R&D 100 Awards are the only industry-wide competition rewarding the practical applications of science. For the first time, R&D Magazine also presented Professional Awards to individuals and teams, and Lawrence Berkely National Laboratory was recognized as R&D Team of the Year for their energy management system work, partially funded by IEDO.
