DOE Announces $135 Million to Reduce Emissions Across America’s Industrial Sector
On June 15, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $135 million for 40 projects across 21 states that will advance key transformational and innovative technologies to reduce carbon pollution from the industrial sector and move the nation toward a net-zero emissions economy by 2050. Read about the selected projects.
DOE Awards $3.9 Million to Advance High-Performance Computing for Energy Innovation
DOE recently announced a $3.9 million federal investment for 13 projects that will tap into the DOE National Laboratories’ world-class high-performance computing (HPC) resources to help manufacturers optimize manufacturing processes and energy use to support the nation’s decarbonization goals. For example, one IEDO-funded project aims to drive industrial decarbonization through electrifying heating in asphalt mixing production. Learn more about HPC and the three IEDO-funded projects.
DOE Selects Arizona State University to Lead New Institute to Drive Industrial Decarbonization through Electrification of Process Heat
Last month, DOE announced the selection of Arizona State University to lead its seventh Clean Energy Manufacturing Innovation Institute. The Electrified Processes for Industry without Carbon (EPIXC) Institute will mobilize a coalition of private companies, National Labs, universities, labor unions, and community partners to bridge the gap between research and commercialization to move novel electrification processes out of the lab and into the market. DOE Launches New Energy Earthshot to Decarbonize Transportation and Industrial Sectors
In May, DOE launched its seventh Energy Earthshot, the Clean Fuels & Products ShotTM. This new Earthshot aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) and develop cost-effective fuels and products for aviation, marine, and other hard-to-decarbonize sectors. Learn more about the Clean Fuels & Products ShotTM and what IEDO is doing to decarbonize the chemicals industry.
Biden-Harris Administration Announces $80 Million To Strengthen American Manufacturing
DOE announced up to $80 million in grant funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for small- and medium-sized manufacturing firms (SMMs) to accelerate the adoption of recommendations made by DOE to improve energy efficiency to lower costs and reduce industrial emissions. Through DOE’s Industrial Assessment Center and Combined Heat and Power Technical Assistance Partnership programs, qualifying SMMs can receive a free assessment that can lead to lower operating costs and reduced carbon and non-carbon pollution emissions.
