The Road to Competition Weekend: Follow AlgaePrize Finalists through a Multimedia Gallery Showcasing Project Innovations
Students from across the country will present creative solutions to address the nation’s bioenergy needs at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) 2022-2023 AlgaePrize Competition on April 14-16 at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado. Leading up to this exciting event, DOE’s Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) is showcasing the competitors through a multimedia gallery.
The AlgaePrize Competition, sponsored by BETO, and supported by the Algae Foundation and NREL, paves the way for the next generation of bioeconomy professionals by generating technologies that will ultimately support the nation’s biofuel research efforts and commercial algae value chain. Algae has the potential to become one of the bioenergy sources of the future and 14 finalist teams of high school, college, and graduate students from across the United States—from Puerto Rico to Alaska, coastal California to the landlocked Midwest—are contributing to the clean energy transition through their innovative research projects. Through AlgaePrize, students are showcasing the power of algae to fuel our vehicles, recycle carbon dioxide, provide nutrition for animals and humans, and create jobs for millions of Americans.
How do the unique properties of algae serve as a potential resource? Watch BETO’s Algae Basics video to learn about the genetic diversity of algae to provide a natural solution to energy, food, economic, and climate challenges facing the world today.
