Join us at the 10th annual U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Collegiate Wind Competition (CWC) final event, where multidisciplinary teams of students representing colleges and universities from across the nation will showcase their work to advance the wind energy industry.

The CWC 2023 teams have spent this past school year designing and building prototype wind turbines, creating wind energy project development plans, partnering with members of the wind energy industry and local media, and raising wind energy awareness in their communities. Throughout the week of the final event, 13 competing teams will present the culmination of this work to a panel of wind energy experts and contend for first-, second-, and third-place awards, as well as awards for the Turbine Design, Turbine Prototype, Project Development, and Connection Creation Contests. In addition, seven learn-along teams will attend to network with members of the wind energy industry and other participating teams. The week’s events will also include the National KidWind Challenge, a renewable energy design competition for middle and high school students.

We invite members of the wind and renewable energy industries, DOE, and national laboratories, as well as state and local leaders, educators, and students to attend. Come watch the competing teams’ presentations and wind turbine testing sessions Tuesday, May 16–Thursday, May 18, 2023, and consider joining the following events:

  • Welcome Ceremony on Monday, May 15, 2023, where the CWC organizers will orient the 2023 teams for the week’s events
  • Combined 2023 Collegiate Wind Competition/National KidWind Challenge on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, where more than 80 teams of middle- and high-school students will work with CWC teams to solve a wind energy challenge in one hour or less
  • National KidWind Challenge Awards on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, where we will announce the top performing and most inspiring 2023 National KidWind challenge teams
  • Alumni and Industry Panel and Networking Session on Thursday, May 18, 2023, a half-day event where members of the wind energy industry, participating students, and faculty advisors can connect
  • Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 19, 2023, where we will announce the CWC 2023 first-, second-, and third-place winners, as well as the winners of the individual contests.

Register now to attend!

The U.S. Department of Energy will soon begin accepting applications for CWC 2024. Keep your eye out for that announcement later this month!
