Workshop Announced! Gasification Technology Status and Pathways for Net-Zero Carbon Economy Workshop

Banner with "Workshop Udates from the Bioenergy Technologies Office" on it.

Do you work on gasification technologies and want to share your thoughts on the current state of the industry with some of the government's foremost experts? On November 30, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO), Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM), and National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) will host the Status of Gasification Technology of Biomass and Solid Wastes (Waste Coal, Waste Plastics, and Municiple Solid Waste) and Pathways for Net-Zero Carbon Economy workshop.

The workshop will assess the state of gasification technologies currently used or being developed for biomass and solid wastes. The discussion will help BETO, FECM, and NETL address barriers in gasification technology through federally funded research and development (R&D).

Desired Workshop Outcomes

  • Encourage dialogue, cross-sector learning, and collaboration between biomass- and fossil-sponsored gasification R&D.
  • Assess R&D needs and risks associated with individual technologies (feedstocks, air separation, syngas cleanup, and end use).
  • Identify technologies expected to be available for pilot demonstration scale by the 2035-2040 timeframe.

Register for this workshop today on BETO’s website, or contact Sonia Hammache (Sonia.hammache@ee.doe.gov) or Jai-Woh Kim (Jai-Woh.Kim@hq.doe.gov) with any questions.

BETO supports research, development, and demonstration to enable the sustainable use of domestic biomass and waste resources for the production of biofuels and bioproducts. BETO is part of DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
