Energy Analyst (Physical Scientist/General Engineer)

Ready to lead change in clean energy and help build a better world? The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) is looking to hire three GS-13 Physical Scientist/General Engineer positions in the Office of the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Strategic Analysis Team.

EERE’s Strategic Analysis Team conducts high-profile, crosscutting analysis to further EERE’s mission, with a particular focus on informing EERE’s work to achieve an equitable transition to a net-zero greenhouse gas emissions economy no later than 2050.

As a Physical Scientist/General Engineer in the Strategic Analysis team, you will provide leadership and expertise to:

  • Manage or assist in the management of EERE-funded analysis projects conducted by national laboratory staff and/or contractors and, in some cases, serve as a co-author on reports and papers.
  • Participate in and help coordinate cross-office working groups that shape EERE analysis priorities, including decarbonization and environmental justice and equity.
  • Develop or assist in the development of written materials to communicate outcomes of Strategic Analysis–funded analysis to DOE and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with quick turn-around tasks for EERE senior leadership, including briefing memos, congressional testimony, and technical review of proposed legislation.

DOE has direct hire authority to fill scientific, technical, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) positions. General engineers and physical scientists are the two positions most available within EERE. Direct hire authority allows DOE to hire faster than the traditional government hiring process. In using this authority, DOE still abides by the Merit System Principles and all federal and DOE regulations for hiring.
