DOE and GE Hitachi Team Up to Lower Costs of Building New Nuclear Reactors

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $5.8 million in funding for a project led by GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy to develop three construction technologies that together can reduce the cost of new nuclear builds by more than 10 percent. READ MORE.

Dr. Kathryn Huff Holds Bilateral Meetings in Romania

Dr. Kathryn Huff traveled to Romania to hold bilateral meetings with government officials and particpated in several events with the U.S. nuclear industry, including a tour of the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant. The United States and Romania have an intergovernmental agreement to refurbish Unit 1 at Cernavoda and support the completion of Units 3 and 4 at the power plant. READ MORE.

 


ORNL and AMS Complete Sensor Testing for Small Modular Reactors

Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Analysis and Measurement Services Corporation recently completed testing of sensors for small light-water reactor systems. The performance data will be shared with commercial companies to improve sensor instrumentation for advanced light-water small modular reactors. READ MORE.

 


DOE Announces Intent to Fund Direct Air Capture FEED Studies

The Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management, in collaboration with NE and the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy’s Geothermal Technology Office, issued a notice of intent for a Funding Opportunity Announcement expected to support front-end engineering design studies of direct air capture. READ MORE.
