Why focus on training your supervisors on EEO Basics?

The EEOC's San Francisco and Los Angeles Districts are collaborating on a series aimed at training supervisors and managers. We agree that the best way to prevent EEO issues is to ensure your frontline people know how to respond to EEO issues and questions when they arise in your workplace! Send your supervisors directly to us for training or train your own trainer to ensure that these folks know what to do and say! 

We asked Nikki St. Germain, Lead Outreach and Education Coordinator for the EEOC's LAs District, how she conceived the workshop “EEO Basics: From Theory to Application." 

"It’s important to recognize that the role of a supervisor is vitally important to the company. They are the frontline for the business. Most companies give the supervisor so much responsibility, but not necessarily the training to do the job. Knowing how to do the job is very different from knowing how to manage the people doing the job. Supervisors not only need to grasp EEO basics but also need to understand how these laws should inform their actions and interactions with employees. As a trainer, I always use lots of real-world examples and invite attendees to participate during the training. Training is a great way to build muscle memory for handling everything from a request for an accommodation to a report of harassment." EEO Basics: From Theory to Application

Join the EEOC for a virtual training designed to introduce the world of EEO to new supervisors and managers.

Let the experts introduce the world of EEO to your new supervisors and managers. This 3-hour virtual training will explore the federal discrimination protections for workers and the obligations placed on employers to address discrimination and harassment in the workplace. In addition to understanding the laws, the dynamic training will spend time going through real-world scenarios and cases to hone the attendees' understanding of the law and their place in creating a safe and discrimination-free workplace. 

Cost: $300/per person

• This course has been approved for 3 hours of continuing legal education for the states of California and Nevada. 
• The U.S. EEOC is recognized by SHRM to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for SHRM-CP® or SHRM-SCP®.  This activity has been approved for 3 hours credit.
• This course is being submitted for approval for HRCI credits. 
• This course meets 3 Hours of the yearly 8-hour refresher training requirements for federal agency Investigator OR Counselor training.
