Specialized Staffing Solutions Settles EEOC Discrimination Charge
Company to Implement Enhanced Training and Policies Conciliating Federal Charge of National Origin, Race, Sex and Disability Discrimination

DETROIT – Specialized Staffing Solutions, a South Bend, Indiana-based staffing agency that places temporary employees with business clients across various industries, resolved a charge of national origin, race, sex and disability discrimination filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency announced today.

According to the EEOC, Specialized Staffing Solutions granted client preferences for temporary workers based on their race, sex, national origin, and disability. Specialized Staffing Solutions disputed the allegations but cooperated with EEOC during its investigation into alleged conduct violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Specialized Staffing Solutions said it affirmed its commitment not to honor any discriminatory client preferences.

Under the three-year conciliation agreement settling the charge, Specialized Staffing Solutions agreed to distribute and post an equal employment opportunity non-discrimination notice, and conduct national origin, race, sex and disability and retaliation training for all employees. Specialized Staffing Solutions also agreed to make a donation to a non-profit organization whose mission supports the rights of individuals and engages in employment services.

“This case presents an opportunity to remind employers that it cannot exclude workers from the benefit of employment because of a worker’s protected membership,” said Deanna Wooten, the EEOC’s enforcement manager in its Detroit office. “We commend Specialized Staffing Solutions for its commitment to providing equal employment opportunities for all of its applicants and employees.”
