Tech Hubs Share Bold Visions to Transform Regions
In February 2024, the 31 Tech Hub Designees submitted their Phase 2 applications, sharing bold visions for transforming their regions into globally competitive, critical technology hubs. EDA updated its website to include broad details about each of the 31 Designees’ proposals. While each Hub’s programs reflect their respective technology and industry focus, they are unified by the goals of the Tech Hubs program: making and delivering innovative products and services; developing our workforce for the jobs of tomorrow; and strengthening America’s economic competitiveness and national security. Recompete Phase 2 Applications Submitted
EDA’s Recompete Team is beginning the process of evaluating applications for the Recompete Pilot Program Phase 2 Notice of Funding Opportunity. Twenty-two Recompete Finalists were eligible to apply for implementation grants. EDA expects to award implementation funding to 4-8 Finalists, with each receiving between $20 to $50 million on average. Grants are expected to be announced this summer. [Read More]
Upcoming Event: Powering U.S. prosperity and competitiveness through place-based investment
After decades of growing economic divergence, the American Rescue Plan Act, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act represent a federal recommitment to investing directly in local communities to power national prosperity, competitiveness, and resilience. On May 21, the Brookings Institution and Duke University will host an event focused on this renewed place-based economic agenda, featuring high-level Biden administration officials, state and local leaders, and national experts. EDA Welcomes New Deputy Assistant Secretary for Economic Development & Chief Operating Officer
On April 22, EDA welcomed Ben Page as the new Deputy Assistant Secretary for Economic Development and Chief Operating Officer. He brings more than a decade of federal managerial experience to the position, having most recently served as Senior Advisor to Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. In this role, he helped support implementation of the Department’s infrastructure and other large-scale programs while also serving as liaison to the White House Infrastructure Implementation Taskforce.

Following a severe storm and coastal flooding, a $2 million EDA disaster supplemental investment supported development of a strategic roadmap to strengthen Maine’s marine living resources economy and increase resiliency against future natural disasters. When Reese Air Force Base closed in 1997, local, state, and federal leaders quickly stepped in to mitigate the damage by redeveloping the base and finding ways to replace the lost jobs.
