
EDA Award Supports Science and Nursing Workforce Development in North Carolina
In December, Hillary Sherman, Economic Development Representative for North Carolina, visited Pitt Community College in Winterville. There, she toured the recently constructed Science and Technology Training Center, which was established in part through EDA funding. In 2015, EDA provided a $2 million Public Works grant to support the project and to promote science and nursing workforce development in a persistently underserved community. The program has expanded through additional funding provided by EDA’s Build Back Better Regional Challenge (BBBRC). As a partner institution of the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, Pitt recently expanded its biotechnology training program and purchased new lab equipment through BBBRC funding.
EDA 2023: A Year of Impact

Our dedicated team of public servants work tirelessly to improve the competitiveness of American industry through equitable economic growth, a core priority of the Biden-Harris Administration. EDA’s efforts in 2023 resulted in approximately $403 million of federal investment in 584 projects, which are expected to lead to over 27,000 new, quality jobs, and nearly $8.5 billion in private investment, according to grantee estimates. ATRO Outlines Economic Recovery Efforts in Florida
On December 5, Greg Vaday, Economic Development Representative for Florida, conducted a webinar with representatives from the state’s Economic Development Districts. Vaday provided an overview of EDA’s economic recovery efforts in Florida following Hurricane Idalia last summer as provided through FY 2023 Disaster Supplemental funding. Vaday also outlined the status of EDA’s two newest initiatives, Tech Hubs and Recompete, and offered a look ahead at new opportunities in 2024.
U.S. Small Business Administration Announces America's Seed Fund Tour
In conjunction with the America’s Seed Fund program, the U.S. Small Business Administration announced a 2024 multi-city tour that will introduce innovators and entrepreneurs to technology funding opportunities with the department’s Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs. The America’s Seed Fund program is investing up to $2 million in funding for startups that are developing new technologies. It encourages participation by traditionally underrepresented groups while supporting technological innovation. [Read more]
