EDA Helps Communities After Disasters Immediately and Long-Term
The data is irrefutable: disasters can strike any community in the U.S., and they are occurring with increasing frequency and intensity. Just last week, parts of Florida and South Carolina were hit by Hurricane Idalia and in Hawaii, the risk of wildfire remains just weeks after deadly fires destroyed parts of the state.

September is National Preparedness Month, a time to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies. EDA’s support after natural disasters is both immediate and long-term through investments to support recovery and resilience, and our agency is uniquely positioned to lead federal coordination for economic recovery support. This position has led to EDA assisting after multiple disasters and providing billions of dollars in disaster supplemental funding to support communities.

EDA Receives Hundreds of Applications for Phase 1 of Tech Hubs Program
EDA is currently in the process of evaluating the 378 applications it received for Phase 1 of the Tech Hubs program. The application window closed on August 15, 2023. Phase 1 of the competition will designate Tech Hubs in regions across the country and will also award strategy development grants to accelerate development of future Tech Hubs. Later this year, EDA will launch Phase 2 of the competition, for applicants designated as a Tech Hub to apply for implementation funding. [Read More]

Recompete Application Assistance
Applications are being accepted now for Phase 1 of the Recompete Pilot Program with an application deadline of October 5, 2023. EDA is providing support to potential applicants through resources, application tips, and is offering public office hours. [Read More]
Good Jobs Challenge One Year Anniversary
August marked the one-year anniversary of the Good Jobs Challenge awards, an American Rescue Plan program which awarded $500 million to 32 industry-led workforce training partnerships to invest in innovative approaches to workforce development. A Second Life for Naval Air Station
A former naval air station has a new life, thanks in part to a series of EDA investments. When the Brunswick Naval Air Station closed in 2011, leaders saw an opportunity to repurpose the facility as a business hub. Planning for Broadband
Lack of access to broadband is a problem for millions across the country, including in the state of Missouri. An EDA grant is allowing the state to better understand the broadband challenges and is better positioning the state for other federal broadband grant opportunities, including additional planning grants. Just this summer, Missouri was allocated $1.7 billion through NTIA’s BEAD program. [Read More]

Expanding Equitable Access for Entrepreneurs
Two EDA investments are supporting a South Carolina non-profit’s efforts to assist local entrepreneurs. Focused on equity and extending resources to traditionally overlooked entrepreneurs, the most recent investment is allowing Lowcountry Local First to expand support services to both Spanish and Portuguese, to help even more small business owners in the region.
