Clickety-Clack: A Study on Joint Bar Integrity

 

To help prevent the conditions that can lead to derailments, Volpe’s David Jeong worked with Ali Tajaddini from the Federal Railroad Administration and Radim Bruzek of ENSCO Inc. to study the structural integrity of joint bars that hold rail sections together.

Volpe Staff at National and Local Events

Volpe staff were featured at a number of key speaking engagements in June and July, including the following:

  • June 24: Michael Dinning gave a presentation titled “Strategies for Maritime Cyber Security – Leveraging the Other Modes” at the Innovative Technologies for a Resilient Marine Transportation System conference in Washington, D.C. 

  • July 15-17: Jane Lappin, Lydia Rainville, Kevin Gay, Elizabeth Machek, and Valarie Kniss co-chaired the "Automated Vehicles Symposium 2014" in San Francisco, CA. Volpe staff and other transportation professionals discussed the impact of road vehicle automation.   

  • July 22: Haley Peckett and William Lyons were panelists at the Transportation Research Board’s Tools of the Trade for Small and Medium Sized Communities Conference in Burlington, VT. Peckett presented “The Role of Rural Planning Organizations in Planning Beyond Boundaries” as part of the Dealing with Multi-jurisdictional Travel panel. Lyons facilitated and presented on the Performance Measures for Planning: Rules and Tools panel.
