Volpe staff were featured at key speaking engagements in
October, including the following:
- Dr. Divya Chandra presented results of a human factors study on flight procedures to the International Civil Aviation Organization First Flight Operations Panel in Montreal, Canada. Dr. Chandra also presented these results to the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Aeronautical Information Service in Washington, D.C. The study results will help the FAA and industry improve safety by anticipating potential human factors issues during the design of new flight procedures.
- Steven Lang chaired the Safety Issues of Wake Vortex in Aviation panel at the Aerodays 2015 Conference, held October 20-23 in London, United Kingdom. The event shares collaborative research achievements within aeronautics and air transport.
- Dr. Stephen Popkin presented on fatigue management strategies used within the U.S. transportation sector at the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety 2015 Benchmark Conference, held October 14-15 in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Popkin discussed research to improve the safety and well-being of transportation shift workers.
- Jane Lappin participated in the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) World Congress, held October 5-9 in Bordeaux, France. Lappin delivered presentations to congress panels, facilitated the trilateral ITS Steering Group meeting, and co-chaired the Automation in Road Transportation Working Group.
- David Jeong discussed Volpe’s research on train car crashworthiness and rail integrity issues related to recent railroad accidents involving hazardous materials and broken rails at the 2015 Material Science and Technology Conference, held October 4-8 in Columbus, Ohio.
- Alexis Zubrow and George Noel presented the latest version of the Aviation Environmental Design Tool at the Community Modeling and Analysis System Conference, held October 5-7 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
- Dr. Donald Fisher chaired a panel discussion on potential applications of virtual reality and augmented reality for transportation research at the 2015 Road Safety and Simulation Conference, held October 6-8 in Orlando, Florida.
