National EMS Issues with a Local Impact

The “2016 Report to Congress on Emergency Communications Centers and the Role of Communications Technologies in Reducing Mortality in the Rural United States” is now available. This report examines the impact that pre-hospital emergency response has on mortality rates on the country’s highways and interstates, particularly in rural states. Notable findings include the essential role that Emergency Communication Centers (ECCs) and their use of communications technology play, as well as the importance of public and private partnerships. EMS Agenda 2050 Assembles Panel to Guide National Effort
EMS Agenda 2050The 10-person panel will lead the EMS Agenda 2050 project and gather community input on how to share the future of EMS in the next decades. Read More
 
Fatigue in EMS Project and EMS Compass Look to the Future
Two NHTSA-funded projects, one addressing fatigue management in EMS and the other tackling EMS performance measurement, make progress toward improving patient care and safety. Read More

The HHS Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT outlines the benefits and challenges of incorporating EMS in HIE and also recognizes OEMS as a “Fabulous Partner.” Read More
 

 

EMS Week and National Trauma Awareness Month
In May, we observe National Trauma Awareness Month and, from May 21-27, EMS Week. The EMS community works tirelessly every day to ensure the health and safety of the public. The Office of EMS would like to recognize the important work of EMS professionals, their colleagues in the emergency care continuum and everyone who supports them in their mission to make communities across the country safer and healthier.
