Saint Patrick’s Day – March 17th

Saint P Days

As Americans around the country prepare to mark the St. Patrick's Day holiday, NHTSA is reminding drivers not to get behind the wheel if they've had too much to drink. NHTSA analysis shows that on St. Patrick's Day alone, 32 percent of fatalities from motor vehicle crashes were connected to drunk driving.

Updated Estimates of Fatality Reduction by Air Bags

ab

NHTSAs’ Office of Vehicle Safety analysis indicates that four types of curtain and side air bags each significantly reduce fatality risk in near-side impacts of cars and LTVs: curtains plus torso bags by an estimated 31 percent, combination head/torso bags by 25 percent, curtains alone by 16 percent, and torso bags alone by 8 percent. Curtains that deploy in rollovers reduce fatality risk in first-event rollovers by an estimated 41 percent. Find out more by clicking here.

America Walks – Free Webinar

AM Walk

Pedestrian crash fatalities have been on the rise in recent years, particularly in urban environments. On Thursday, March 20th, America Walks is providing a free webinar focused on reversing this unsettling trend in urban and suburban communities, where walking is the mode of choice for some, and the only choice for many.  The webinar describes how pedestrian safety can be incorporated into all planning and design processes.
Be sure to share with local partners with pedestrian safety programs, and register in advance by clicking here.
