New Web-Based Training Series

Learn about Highway Traffic Noise today!

Calling State DOT staff and consultants working on highway construction projects! If you perform noise analyses on the job or your work involves the results of noise studies, this no-cost training series is for you.

This web-based training (WBT) series provides an overview of highway traffic and construction noise based upon and focused on the FHWA's 23 CFR 772.

These courses have been broken down into short, independent trainings that you can take at your own pace, on your own schedule.

Each training is designed to help you better understand federal regulations, foundational scientific concepts, and processes associated with performing highway noise studies that lead to design and construction.

Acoustics of Highway Traffic and Construction Noise

FHWA-NHI-142086 - 2 hrs, 0.2 CEU, $0

This WBT teaches the basic principles of acoustics. You'll learn to identify how frequency, wavelength, and octaves impact how humans respond to sound, as well as how to determine the best noise barrier for a given scenario.

Highway Traffic and Construction Noise Regulations

FHWA-NHI-142087 - 2 hrs, 0.2 CEU, $0

Gain a better understanding of the key federal laws that apply to highway traffic noise, and learn to dstinguish between which projects are categorized as Type I, Type II, and Type III.

How to Measure Highway Traffic Noise

FHWA-NHI-142088 - 2 hrs, 0.2 CEU, $0

This 2-hour course focuses on noise measurement. You'll learn basic concepts and resources as well as key considerations of noise measurement studies such as equipment, site selection, and sampling periods.

How to Document Highway Traffic Noise Study Results

FHWA-NHI-142093 - 1 hr, 0.1 CEU, $0

Learn to identify when and how to conduct noise studies for alternative delivery projects. You'll also learn how to identify as noise study reporting requirements and technical reporting components.
