The Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Joint Program Office (JPO) Launches New Blog Series: ITS and You

The ITS JPO has launched a blog series, ITS and You, to connect with people, share program highlights, and outline the benefits of program activities for the public. “Ensuring Transportation Safety and Advancement During Unprecedented Times,” the blog’s first post—written by Ken Leonard, ITS JPO Director—touches on how ITS technologies help the transportation system respond to challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. The second post, “How Emerging Technologies Can Help in Crisis Response,” which is also authored by Ken Leonard, highlights the ITS JPO's efforts to track and assess promising innovative or disruptive technologies for our transportation systems, particularly those technologies related to crisis response.

Complete Trip – ITS4US Deployment Program Broad Agency Announcement (BAA)

The U.S. DOT is soliciting proposals for the Complete Trip – ITS4US Deployment Program through the use of a BAA.

The program is designed to bring publicly and privately sponsored research together to create large-scale, replicable deployments that generate increased multimodal mobility options for all travelers regardless of location, income, or disability. The program will make available up to $40 million to enable communities to showcase innovative business partnerships, technologies, and practices that promote independent mobility for all travelers.

The proposals are due August 3, 2020, at 1:00 PM ET.

Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for Work Zone Data Exchange (WZDx) Demonstration Grants

The U.S. DOT Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) released a NOFO for WZDx Demonstration Grants on June 16, 2020, for eligible infrastructure owners and operators for implementation of the WZDx specification.

The purpose of this research program is to increase the safety of the traveling public through the production of consistent public work zone data feeds across jurisdictions. The program provides one-time funding for public roadway operators to make unified work zone data feeds available for use by third parties and collaborate on specification development. The current closing date for applications is August 3, 2020.

Connected Vehicle (CV) Pilot Data Story Available on the ITS DataHub

Throughout each pilot of the ITS JPO’s CV Deployment Program, data were collected to facilitate independent evaluations of the use of CV technology on real roadways.

To encourage additional study and reuse of these data, ITS DataHub has partnered with each pilot site to make sanitized and anonymized tabular and non-tabular data from these projects available to the public. The CV Pilot Open Data page provides a brief overview of each pilot's focus and the types of CV Pilot data and tools available on ITS DataHub.

From Our Partners: Advancing Mode Options in Managed Lane Projects

July 9, 2:00-3:30 PM ET

The FHWA Office of Operations currently provides guidance and assistance on the integration of emerging mobility into transportation management. One specific type of innovative transportation management strategy is managed lanes. This National Operations Center of Excellence webinar is designed to explore specific ways to integrate such concepts as mobility on demand, information technology, and behavioral economics into managed lane projects in order to enhance alternative mode use in managed lane corridors.
