Upcoming USDOT Webinar: Deploying ITS Standards Using USDOT Testing Tools

April 17, 1:00 - 2:30 PM ET – In this webinar, participants will discuss deployment of interoperable transportation systems using ITS Standards. This webinar will introduce two software tools to support testing and procurement of ITS Center-to-Field and Center-to-Center standards-based systems. Participants will discuss the benefits of using these tools and describe real-world experience of users and their projects and the use of the tools by standards development organizations.

American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) Launches ITS Webinar Series


April 24, 2:00 - 3:00 PM ET – This upcoming webinar series will focus on ITS as a tool to integrate efficiency into freight and port projects, provide a sharper understanding of advocacy positions and collaborating opportunities during the FAST Act Reauthorization process, as well as unveil the ITS Module of the Port Planning and Investment Toolkit and ITS ePrimer. The April webinar, supported by AAPA, will discuss ITS port project examples from the Port of Los Angeles and Port Corpus Christi. The second webinar, slated for May 2nd will focus on the Port ITS ePrimer and the ITS module of Port Planning and Investment Toolkit. The second webinar is supported by the U.S. Maritime Administration and the ITS Joint Program Office's PCB Program. Registration links to the May webinar will be made available soon.

Talking TIM Webinar: TIM Technology and Program Innovations


April 24, 1:00 - 2:30 PM ET – This Transportation Incident Management (TIM) webinar supported by the National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE) will feature technology and program innovations to improve traffic incident management. The learning objectives include understanding how to strengthen multidisciplinary TIM programs; using crowdsourced data for improved incident detection; and applying new technologies for safe and quick incident clearance.

USDOT at South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive Conference


The USDOT hosted six interactive sessions and a demonstration room highlighting four research areas during the 2019 SXSW Conference. Participants learned about how the USDOT supports innovation, discussed key technologies that will shape transportation in the future, and participated in thought-provoking conversations. ITS topics include automation in the Nation's freight transportation system, automation in accessible transportation, cybersecurity in the age of automation, the Cooperative Automation Research Mobility Applications, and the Work Zone Data Exchange project.

Wyoming Connected Vehicle Pilot Determines Appropriate Tractor-Trailer Antenna Placement and Equipment Configuration


The Wyoming Connected Vehicle Pilot project includes equipping semis with connected vehicle onboard units and antennas to enable communication with other equipped vehicles and the infrastructure. Tractor-trailer units provided unique challenges to installing this equipment functionally. Recently, through research, testing, and hard work alongside vendors and the ITS PCB Program's Equipment Loan Program, the team realized that the antenna cable quality, type, and design all needed modification to work with the tractor-trailer units.
