BTS Releases August Airline On-Time and Tarmac Data (Corrected ATCR Link)

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics today released August airline on-time and tarmac numbers. Here is a summary of tables posted on the BTS website

The tables posted on the BTS website are:
Table 1: On-time arrival performance during the first eight months of 2012 (82.06) was the highest for the January-August period in the 18 years with comparable numbers. The previous high was 81.92 percent in January-August 2003. The cancellation rate for the eight-month period (1.15) was the lowest in the 18 years with comparable numbers. The previous low was 1.29 percent in January-August 2002. Note that the number of reporting carriers has varied.
Table 2: August, with 79.15 percent of flights arriving on time, was the 79th highest month of the 212 months with comparable records. On-time performance in August 2012 was the sixth highest for any August and above the average of 77.29 for August in the previous 17 years. The cancellation rate of 1.31 percent in August 2012 was the fourth lowest for any August, below the average of 1.89 percent in the previous 17 years and the 59th lowest for any month.
Table 3: Minneapolis (88.63) had the highest and San Francisco (68.02) had the lowest on-time arrival performance of the 29 busiest airports in August.
Table 4: Salt Lake City (89.08) had the highest and Newark (69.11) had the lowest on-time arrival performance of the 29 busiest airports for the eight-month January-August period.
Table 5: Minneapolis (89.73) had the highest and Newark (65.88) had the lowest on-time departure performance of the 29 busiest airports in August.
Table 6: Salt Lake City (90.06) had the highest and Newark (71.12) had the lowest on-time departure performance of the 29 busiest airports for the eight-month January-August period.
Tarmac Times: No domestic flights with tarmac time of more than three hours in August.
One international flight with tarmac time of more than four hours, the time period when airlines may be subject to enforcement. Caribbean Airlines Flight 421 from New York JFK to Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, on August 15 was on the JFK tarmac for 268 minutes before returning to gate. It later resumed normal operation.
Chronically Delayed:
3 consecutive months: None.
2-months: Three Alaska flights, one Delta flight, 13 ExpressJet flights, 28 SkyWest flights, seven Southwest flights, two United flights and two Virgin America flights were more than 30 minutes late or canceled more than 50 percent of the time in both July and August.
1-month: In August, the two most delayed flights wereMesa Flights 1058 and 1059 between Honolulu and Kona. Both Flight 1058 from Honolulu and Flight 1059 from Kona operated 12 times during the month and were 30 minutes late or canceled 91.67 percent of the time. Flight 1058 averaged 79 minutes late while Flight 1059 averaged 81 minutes late.
